Primus Telecommunications expands operations

Washington Business Journal - 10:02 AM EDT Thursday, August 30, 2007
by Ben Hammer, Staff Reporter

Primus Telecommunications Group Inc. is expanding sales operations at its McLean headquarters and Boston office and plans to add 20 new hires by the end of the year.

The company (OTCBB: PRTL) provides communications services that include international and domestic voice, Internet phone service, Internet access, wireless services, data center and hosting services to business and residential retail customers and other carriers in the U.S., Canada, Australia, U.K. and Western Europe.

Primus said it is opening two regional sales offices to focus on demand for customized voice-over-Internet services to businesses in the U.S. The company's Internet telephone services are delivered over a software interface sold to businesses by Germantown-based Broadsoft Inc.

The new field and office-based sales staff will augment the company's Tampa, Fla. sales office in focusing on hosted and trunked Internet phone services to small and medium-size businesses.

Primus lost $238 million in 2006 on revenue of $1 billion. The company was founded in 1994.
